Ion beam implantation application in the biomedical domain : prosthesis and implants
Thanks to ion beam implantation process (our ionGUNTM ion source), IONICS has successfully increased the surface properties of various materials used in the biomedical domain as titanium and chrome cobalt based alloys but also polymers. For example, hardness and elastic modulus of MWHDPE are significantly increased leading to lower friction coefficients of knee insert and reduced risks of wear particle formation. The ion implantation process does not imply any coating deposition.
